Official 2019 IGNITE Office Space Contestant, Gary Lynn with The Gary J. Lynn Foundation

Year Established:

2008

Outreach Type:

Physically immobile people

Give a brief history of your nonprofit's story. Please include how and why it was established, and who has been involved.

Growing up my three older brothers and I had to chose foundations and volunteer our services throughout the year. We worked at the Shriners Hospital helping with their events for the patients, a soup kitchen, ASPCA and Habitat for Humanity and SIRE. Helping so many people I realized I should be helping those like myself with cerebral palsy.

I began The Gary J. Lynn Foundation in 2008 through events and raised $15,000.00 for cerebral palsy research which I donated to Cerebral Palsy International which helps fund research for CP. I became very interested in robotics and TIRR Memorial Hermann who told me they were completing their Neuroscience Research Institute for robotics. I met with the CEO of TIRR who took us on a tour of this amazing building. Robotics helps not only those with cerebral palsy but people with brain injury, stroke victims, those with MS and people who lose mobility through a disease or accident. This is where Congresswoman Gabby Gifford was helped to become mobile after being shot as well as former Houston Texan, Amobi Okoye. I have raised and donated $40,000.00 to the Neuroscience Institute, robotics floor.

What outreach or services does your nonprofit offer?

My outreach is physically immobile people.

What is your ultimate goal for your nonprofit?

My goal is to continue raising money for robotic equipment so patients will be able to take home the robots to continue their therapy at home on a daily basis. I am hoping this will help to eliminate wheelchairs.-Gary Lynn, founder of The Gary J. Lynn Foundation
